Above Swift Hall’s main entrance on the building’s North side there are two stone reliefs. The right-hand carving is an “Agnus Dei” or “Lamb of God” motif. The carving on the lefthand side features the University of Chicago’s coat of arms, a phoenix rising from flames and its motto in Latin, "Crescat scientia; vita excolatur."
